Anaconda Volunteer Center was formed in response to a community assessment that demonstrated a great need for volunteer development and coordination. The community of Anaconda, MT experienced a significant change in their economy and overall wellbeing when the copper smelter closed in the early 1980's. Many revitalization projects have been initiated and achieved. However, many additional issues and needs remain unaddressed or unresolved. The Northwest Area Foundation has been working with citizens to help improve the quality of life in this community through the Horizons project. The Horizons project has spearheaded this volunteer coordination effort with the goal of pulling together the efforts, generosity, and pride of local businesses, Organizations, and citizens.
